The Lolland soil

Knuthenlund's land is characterised by the excellent soil conditions found on Lolland. The soil consists of sandy clay soil and pure clay soil. Together with the area's mild climate, the good clay soil makes Lolland one of the best agricultural areas in Denmark.

On 1 July 2007, Knuthenlund started converting to organic farming to capitalize on the good growing conditions to produce high-quality foods. The conversion takes a total of 3 years, with the first 2 years being conversion years. During the conversion years, the crops will primarily consist of feed crops, while after conversion consumption crops will be grown to a greater extent.

Knuthenlund has a total of 740 hectares of farmland. In 2010, this is being used to grow winter triticale, broad beans, soya, malt barley, oats, spelt, common wheat, rye, clover grass and rape.

The agricultural land at Knuthenlund is worked by three skilled tractor drivers - Carsten Sørensen, Carsten Larsen and Bjarne Kristensen - together with estate manager Christian Nielsen.
